FROM TIMOLEAGUE TO COURTMACSHERRY (and back!)

Took advantage of this morning’s sunny patch to walk from Timoleague to Courtmacsherry and back. This walk uses parts of an old railway line. The communities of Timoleague and Courtmacsherry co-operated with the County Council to develop it and you may read more here.

I parked alongside the ruined abbey in Timoleague, walked over the old bridge nearby and was on my way. There is a path, a clean concrete path, level all the way from one village to the other, with a good share of seats if you want to take a break and watch the elegant birds of the estuary as they go about their daily activities.

About halfway along, there is another ruined abbey called Abbeymahon. Very little is left of this compared to the one in Timoleague. It was very quiet in Courtmac as I walked in about 11.00am, I was alone on the pier as I took a few photos.

Needed a little refreshment and called to Rita’s shop and started the walk back. The sun was going behind the cloud at this stage. Not sure what the total distance is but it is somewhere around nine kilometres. Hope you enjoy the pics (click on collage to enlarge).
