ART STUDENT AWARD
Liz Meaney, the Cork City Arts Officer, officially opened the Student of the Year Award exhibition at the Lavit last evening. In front of a relatively large gathering, Liz praised the joint winners, Pam Carroll and Áine Maher, for their work and wished them all the best in the future.
She acknowledged that we were “depressed” and had “empty pockets” but that the prize-winners needed encouragement and that the best encouragement was to buy their work, so maybe those pockets could be searched again. The show runs until the 12th.
There was praise too for Parfrey Murphy and Co. Chartered Accountants for their long term sponsorship of the event and high praise also to the Lavit for their commitment to the cause.
For over 40 years, The Student of the Year Award has been given by the Lavit Gallery to a graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design, who shows promise and potential. Past recipients of this award have included - John Burke, Eilis O' Connell, Vivienne Roche, Maud Cotter and Bridget Flannery to name but a few. Read more
